Issey Miyake is a Japanese fashion designer who is mostly known for his use of technology in the production of his ranges. In 1970, after years of traveling and work experience, Miyake returned to his homeland of Tokyo and set up Miyake Design Studio. He immediately began designing and producing women’s fashion and around seven years later he included men’s fashion. His designs were always created and completed in innovative and future-forward ways.

As a respected designer and a stalwart of the fashion industry with many excellent collections behind his label, Miyake dived into the world of fragrance in 1992. He began his aromatic adventure with L’eau d’Issey, an aquatic-floral smelling fragrance for women. It was well-received and a favorite for young women across the globe for many years. Today, it is considered his most well-known and well-received product. Miyake designed the beautiful yet simple perfume bottle too. He is said to have based it on the view of the moon behind the Eiffel Tower from his apartment in Paris.

Miyake went on to create a number of different perfumes for both women and men all with the same sophistication and luxury that L’eau d’Issey presented. Online, Miyake speaks of finding inspiration in nature where he can express his emotions. The brand and the man have continued exploring nature to its full extent. Miyake has a fondness for the ocean and other water sources. This element of nature is considered essential in Miyake’s fragrance creations.
